2012 SKYLARK SYRAH, RODGERS CREEK VINEYARD, SONOMA COAST
Rodgers Creek Vineyard is planted on an elevated ridge in the Petaluma Gap area of the Sonoma Coast AVA. Planted to a Rhone clone on volcanic rock, this sloping hillside vineyard offers arresting views of the Sonoma coast to the west and San Pablo Bay and even San Francisco to the south. This is cool climate grape-growing at its finest, with coastal winds and fog tempering the sunny California climate. The clonal selection is perfect for this microclimate, offering a unique combination of Old World aromatics and California fruit profile. We use whole clusters in the fermentation here, as is done in the Rhone Valley, to emphasize the specific character of this vineyard. The result is highly perfumed, aromatic and complex Syrah with loads of personality.

Tasting notes by the highly respected Jeb Dunnuck of
The Wine Advocate
"Another outstanding wine from this team, the 2012 Syrah Rodgers Creek was fermented with 30% whole clusters and aged in 25% new French oak. It has a Northern Rhone-like fell in its peppery, olive, bacon fat and dark fruit-scented bouquet. This gives way to a medium-bodied, supple, textured red that has solid mid-palate concentration and a great finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 5 – 7 years."
